Interviewing Dr. Roberto Passailegue

We ask Dr. Passailegue what was his opinion about ECA, he responded they were necessary to develop the sholarized curriculum as a way to reinforce academeically after school hours. He mentioned that ECA should adjust to the demand of the students neccessities to cover complementary aspects. He explained that one disadvantage are excessive training  versus healthy fun. By making ECA mandatory would affect public schools with 2 shifts, day and night schools will have an overlapping of time as well as teachers.

Some public schools don't have the infrastructure for training sports or practicing arts and crafts. Another factor he indicated was that the student-teacher ratio will also be affected. Equipment was a nother issues that can cause ECA to fail.  This can also affect the educative quality of schools, they must mantain it if deciding to make them mandatory. If ECA were to be mandatory then it should be to add to the school curriculum following the Ecuadorian needs for our students.

He shared with us that ECA also cover tutoring, homework assignments and projects.

"Students in bachillerato should choose the subjects they want to study"

I will prove that this resolution is true.
1.               Adolescents' develop autonomy
“The chains of slavery only tie our hands; is the mind which makes man free or slave” wise words by Franz Grillparzer, in this phrase we can understand the purpose of autonomy which according to the website thefreedictionary is the right of self-determination and independence, Man’s autonomy is even implicit in the Bible. According to the article BACHILLERATO written by Manuel Tarraga posted on the website centros5 the Bachillerato specialization gives the basic knowledge for the university carrier, it is the first track on your professional life; it helps you clarify what you want to work. The importance holds on to the student’s decision, they know what they LIKE and what they don’t, therefore students should have the right to choose what they SPECIFICALLY want to study, because studying subjects that do not contribute to your professional formation are useless at the moment of applying knowledge in a future job. For example, if I want to be an architect why should I know about chemistry or anatomy?

2.               Choosing facilitates Adolescents to mature
Society is desperatly asking youth to mature at early ages, if they want so, then let us behave as INDEPENDENT BEINGS, let us make choises, if we are wrong we will learn to asume the consequences. According to the article Adolescents and why freedom is not free posted on the website physicologytoday written by the physicologist Carl Pickhardt states that along our lifes we have been taught about the directly relation between choice/consequence; for example Unprotected sex, can lead to sexual disease or unwanted pregnancy; if he parked illegally and got a ticket, he must spend his allowance money to pay the fine. By owning and dealing with the consequences of their decisions, the young person learns responsibility. This concept can be easily applied to education because parents try to assume the RESPONSABILITIES of the adolescents and their concequences just like the educational system TRIES, my laudable opponent might say that students shouldnt decide their subjects because their is already an Educational Macro organization that is in charge of making the pensuls of each specialization basing on the social changes and necesities, therefore they will know what are the best subjects for the adolescents specialization and will protect them to possible regreting and proffesional failure, but WHO WILL KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR ME THAN MYSELF, I would never think in harming my future, I would think in what is convenient for my develpment, as a proffesional and as an adult that learns how to deal with real situacions and decisions. Because adolescence is a more impulsive age, because peer pressure is strongest during adolescence, and because the adolescent brain is not yet fully formed, there is some thought about adolescents who make harmful choices would never be able to make the right ones and that they should held to adult account for the consequences of their actions OR IN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS, if you want adolescents to act grown up, you must hold them to adult account so they can learn to take adult responsibility.
3. Students that choose their subjects in school are more motivated to studying.
Nothing is more difficult, and therefore more precious, than to be able to decide.  ~Napoleon Bonaparte
Students, winthin their role envolve the obligation to learn, to develop new habilities,to adquire knowledge, but it is with the purpose of DEVELOPING the hability that makes them stand out, and to demarcate their afinity with a certain subject, therefore they should focuss on it. According to the Cambridge Dictionary the Word motivation means enthusiasm and encouragment for doing something. According to the article what Armstrong teach us posted on the website writetodone, a clear example of motivation is Lance Armstrong, his passion and dedication to the cycling, made him the legend that he is. So what a better motivation for a student than to wake up in the morning knowing that he will study what passionate him. The emphasis and concentration on certain subjects will improve the quality of study material and will help TO CREATE a formal and well instructed proffesional. IS BETTER QUALITY than QUANTITY of knowledge, students in their specialization could learn from a wide scale but they would be mediocre in all, than standing in the neccesary ones. My opponent might say that ANY EXTRA SUBJECT COULD NEVER BE DEVALUATED but to clarify my statement I am not saying that they should prevent themselves of an extra knowledge, but that they should have the right to decide if they want to emphasize on them.

Interview

02- 06- 10 9 o clock
Interview with: Psychologist Miss Maricruz studied in university Laica with a doctorate in science of adolescents psychology.
she disagrees with the resolution STUDENTS OF BACHILLERATO SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHOOSE THEIR SUBJECTS
Her arguments were:
1. Adolescents are not mature enough
2. agree that in leading economies studying all subjects are compulsory which have lead them to their high developments
3. there is a macro organization of education
4. Adolescents are changing and influenced
5. disagrees that they are taking out their liberty
SUMMARY:
According to her doctorate, she knows that 15-16 year old adolescents have not reached their full physical and mental development, therefore they do not have the capacity to decide that, also that adolescents tend to go with the trends and seemed to feel the peer pressure and the feeling of leaving their friends behind and that it is very common that many students take the same decision of their friends to stay i their comfort zone and to be trendy.
She mentioned that there exists an organization of education to a macro level that goes beyond the students' and the high school's decision. This organization is in charge to study the needs and the improvements in the globalized society to make the study PENSUL for each specialization.
She stated that only 2 in 30 students is sure of what specialization they will choose and their university carrier and that the other 28 find out what they want to be in 6th course, that is when their affinity and love to the career appears; because of this situation THESE macro organization implements to every specialization a wide scale on extra subjects, therefore if students change their mind of have any kind of regrets they will be prepared for university. she is a living example of this, she studied in BACHILLERATO mathematical physicist although she studied PSYCHOLOGY in the university. Actually she can estimate that all her effort in bachiilerato was worth it, she said to us that although she does not apply what she learn in bachillerato with Psychology, she applied it to the MATHEMATICAL LOGIC test that all professionals in the educational system must subdue and that ANY EXTRA KNOWLEDGE COULD NEVER AN INCONVENIENT.
We asked her about the liberty that nowadays adolescents are submitted to, if adolescents can vote for the president and for the student council then why they cant choose their subjects? she answered negatively; No, i don't say NO because they shouldn't have the liberty to do so, i say it because there exists a study PENSUL that already studies the necessary complements for each specialization, is the job of the organization, they work on that all day long, any adolescent go out of high school and starts thinking what they will choose.

her argument was
the bachillearto students are not capable of deciding YET, was is better for them
she state in bachilletato the students age is 15, 16 and 17 they are mentally unpreparate to decinding that Copernican decision. the subjects that the school is giving to the students are the base to be an EXPERT, they have to be prepared for everything. a clear example if you studied chemical or biological and in the university he decided to studied laws, you may ask how the chemestry and bioanatomy may help well if you are working as a lawyer in a hospital, they need to be prepared, you need EXTRA credits for the university, they will be more capable of working and now a days that the world is GLOBALIZED.
she stated very clear that is disagree with the fact that the bachillerato students could have the choice to choose their own subjects in their specialization.
1)do you agree that now the adolecence have the right to vote, the right to speak, they have freedom and right, dont you think that letting them choose their subjects
she responde i dont really agree with that cause the school dont choose the subjects in the specialization, the one that choose it are the MACRO organizations, in the education ministry. they choose all those subjects cause the studied very carefully the adolecenses mind, and they know with poles and interviews what they need.
think about something a 20 or 10% of the bachillerato students know what they want to be but the other 90 or 80% of the students are insecure of what they want to study in the university. so they will accept the small group or the mayority, think about that.
