Crackberry

by Xavier Jimenez

The BlackBerry, we impose more modes of communication. Instead of just talking or receiving calls, we can now cross silent messages: SMS, email, and chat in several flavors, social networks like Twitter or Facebook via internet, news, sports scores.
Yes, I have no doubt that communication 24 / 7 has great advantages and is a formidable tool. But, no longer a double-edged sword. Overuse can lead to absurdities like to see tables in the restaurant everyone is talking about, but not among themselves but through their cellphones (and before you even begin to criticize, think, because in a few seconds or minutes, it will be the same at your table).
Remember that before there were places where it was mandatory to turn off your phones? But now, as conversations are quiet, you see the fingers flying furiously on Tecladit in theaters, cinemas, public transport, business meetings, conferences, restaurants, clubs and even the toilet. Anywhere. The addiction of being connected online all the time, has taken over quite easily to more users around the world.
Rick Ueno, general manager of the Sheraton Hotel in Chicago, said the idea of the program that began on Wednesday grew out of his own addiction to this apparatus. His first step was changed to a normal mobile phone.
"I was a truely addicted to my BlackBerry. I was obsessed with email," he told Reuters. He believes customers will want to try to quit for a day or two, so they can concentrate on meetings, business and meet people while at the hotel.
Ueno said he personally takes care of all BlackBerrys or similar devices that his customers want to deliver and locked them in his office until they are asked again. The service will be an additional cost. He says; "I run a hotel with over 900 employees and thousands of guests. I think I'm more effective. I feel better. I sleep better. My family likes it," he said of his life after leaving the BlackBerry.
Nobody doubts the importance of communication and "being connected", but we can choose who, how and especially where and when. If we can no longer have to accept that we have an addiction to the BlackBerry. Did you hear my sound? Excuse me, its work.

great article! and if you want to add another quote here is mine: I am a blackberry addicted because i could not imagine my life without it! for me is so neccesary an usseful as air! It is so much easy to recive mails to the cell phone, it is quite usefull to research info for a HW without turning the computer on, and now with the light cuts it is the source for not-get-bored ! you can go online, msn, mail, fb, etc beside that is a great phone! THANK GOD FOR THE BB!!

I agree with most of this essay. It should no longer be called BlackBerry but yes, CrackBerry. It's become an addiction to everyone. I personally don't own a BlackBerry because I don't find it really interesting despite all of its apps and much more. I think we have to recognize that not only the BlackBerries have become an addiction, but the cellphone itself has become the general, WHOLE addiction. Everywhere you go, you'll see someone with a phone on his or her hand, whether it's a BlackBerry or the latest Nokia. Slowly -or maybe quickly- we'll be living in a virtual society, loosing all human physical contact at all.

I think that everybody in this world can have a bb. If the people is addict is just because they can and I think that they can control themselves when they want. Ivanna Díaz.

I think blackberries are an addiction, still it's very useful and we have different ways to communicate.

I think the blackberry is something that has generated a lot of addiction and distraction more than anything because it is used all the time and almost all have the blackberry service and that's why sometimes it is very useful for communication that is easier but not this well to distract us because it can cause accidents every sense, as in the car

im agree with you that bb converts people in addicted and make them feel the need to have it all day to be online that i believe that its a good advantage because if i need to some research that i forgot i can use the internet on my bb and search for it! so i think that its a good investment.
