Let´s celebrate, Christmas!

By Camila Arcos

Christmas is a festival that people celebrate on December 25, which commemorates the birth of Jesus.

Modern customs of the holiday include gift-giving, church celebration, exchange of Christmas cards and the display of various decorations, including Christmas tree, lights, and nativity scenes. Santa Claus also referred as the Father Christmas, is a popular mythological figure often associated with bringing gifts at Christmas for children.

Christmas is celebrated throughout the Christians population, but also celebrated by many non-Christians as a secular, cultural festival.

Packed with busy shoppers, jingle bells, colorful lights and Santa Claus, Christmas is thought by many people to be “the most wonderful time of the year”. But few people stop to think how it originated. Starting as a pagan holiday during the time of the Romans, it developed into a Christian celebration of Christ. But as Christmas and our culture has changed and become more secular, Jesus has been forgotten and Christmas has become a time full of materialism.

Maria Camila,
I am completely aware of this situation. Spirituality and praying the rosary have been eliminated by marketing products and promotions.

Maria Camila,
I think that you are right according the comercialization of the Christmas, leaving the traditions of praying and remebering the birth of Jesus.

Even though, there a are some people who still follow the traditions and do not see the christmas as a materialist event to take advantage from.

Foundations throughout the month of december work very hard to give a smile to poor people and to express the real message of christmas.

well , i think this article is so important , i am completely agree with it ,the christian people is not the same nowadays , these last years Christmas is just receive gifts and buy new things and make trips things like that , including the church sometimes make partys , i believe people today dont know what is the real meaning of christmas what does the birth of jesus means for the world , in this article i can find the reasons of why people is like is in these days , everyone is like superficially all the time and life is not all about that , life is more than that we have to learn it .
Is really important to start having a little of respect with this dates this important dates around the world , i think the church as the house of god tbat is have to make more things to incentive christmas in other way , not just gifts and partys , it have to be a time for pray , for say thankyou for all God gives us , it must be a relfexion time and well this article was so good have all the reason and i am agree with it .

Christmas have to be a day that is full of love and all people have fun with our family.
During this times i think that Christmas day is only about materials things because nobody really care about the birth of Jesus. i really like this article because you always have toi remaind the people what is the really mean of Christmas day.

Its true, materialism have replaced the true meaning if Christmas. We should think of that and remember that christmas is all about love to family and Jesus, not about gifts

There has been evolution of mankind but also there has been a moral decline though out the years making the sociaety believe that they need to buy gifts for everyone, when christmas is about sharing and having a special moment with family and friends.
Thats why we should try not to follow society and have a Non-Material christmas with our families!! Merry Christmas

Christmas has been changing during the years, now all the kids are interested in the gifts and toys, while for the adult people they only get together and see their selves after a long time wich is bad everyone is suposed to get together not only in holydays but in all the time in the year because is not posible that a family only sees in christmas.

we have each year a christmas day, we bougth presents, we decorated our house, etc. but we are living a false christmas because that is to conmemorate the day that jesus was born, the son of god born that they thats the special thing on christmas, dont forget it.

I´m agree about that Jesus has been forgotten, this is because everyone are focus in the gifts for christmas or the dinner with the family but never think that this date is the celebration of Jesus birth , not the comming of Santa Claus with gifts. The christmas are now a a type of bussines , the sells increases, everyone buy things for christmas! , we have to realize that Jesus is the most important in this days.

I think the people forget the real sence of the christmas that is the born of baby jesus but we also can celebrate and enjoy the holiday with gift and other things.

For me, Christmas is the best. I love December because of Jesus born. My family have a tradition that nine days before Christmas we pray and sing to Jesus, we drink hot chocolate and we pass a very nice moment until December 25th. I totally disagree with the people that think Christmas means presents, that is too bad. This time is to pass with your family with love and respecting each others. I love it, i really enjoy Christmas.

Maria Camila you are totally right , we have lost the real sense of the christmans , this holiday is for celebrate the birth of our saver, we have to remember that he comes to the Earth to die for our salvation. he is a heroe because die for us , so we have to celebrate and remeber hin in the day of his birthday.

people now see christmas as a day in which have to celebrate witn a dinner and you have to give some gifts to your family and friends , this is wrong

Christmas for me is the most important Holiday because we celebrate and remember the born Jesus thousands years ago, but I am bewildered because the REALLY meaning of christmas has been lost during the time in our society, today's day people only relate this important Holiday with food, alcohol, and ask, ask, ask and ask for presents, they abandone and they forget the really sense of Christmas that is wait and celebrate the born of our savior, people replace praying into alcohol and fun. So WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR SOCIETY? we really have to change our way of thinking and acting in Christmas.

I think your right people all forget about the birthday of christ and more about buying presents, getting presents, buying clothes and decoration of santa....but I also know that Christmas is about being with your family and friends and sourounded by the people you love and just having fun and being happy!!
